“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be as wary as serpents, and as innocent as doves.”

If you see a problem, don’t just talk about it; do something about it. We’ve all heard a version of this saying before, and in the USA, we feel we live by this more than other nations. It’s all about “getting things done here.”

This “go-getter attitude” coupled with our value for individualism perhaps explains why we are one of the most entrepreneurial societies in the world. …

So I was thinking about something. To my understanding, there is no case where a psychologist/therapist would suggest someone use physical force to stop someone from attacking or exploiting them. However, we know that at certain times in history, even today, some regimes needed to be overthrown, such as the french in Hati, Japanese in Manchuria, Spanish in Mexico, Spanish in the Philippines, the Soviets in Russia, Mao in China, and the Kim family in North Korea today. …

The universe is big. I mean big. I recently came across an article that helped me contextualize its size compared to the earth. It stated that if the earth was the size of a grain of sand:

  1. The sun would be the size of a billiard ball sitting 19.5 feet away.
  2. The solar system would be the size of four American football fields set end to end.
  3. Our nearest neighboring star, Proxima Centauri, is roughly 4.24 lightyears away, which would be about 977 miles away. That’s the distance between Baltimore and Miami.
  4. Our own Milky Way galaxy, which is home…

When we think about the things we know and how and where we learned them, we usually point to particular experiences we’ve had or people we talked to as the sources of our knowledge. We don’t usually point to an entire community or nation as the teachers of the things we now know and understand. We consider communities and nations as being a part of the backdrop to everything that happens in our lives, with minor influence. However, this doesn’t mean that collective, sometimes baseless ideas, don’t creep their way into our minds. …

You’ve thought long and hard about the wrong you’ve suffered. You relived that moment so much, haven’t you? You know it like you know how it feels to come home when the day is done. — The crumbled rocks under your feet that now feels like coarse sand, the spiders in the doorway as you unlock the door. The rushing relief when finally get inside. — You know it from the gut, but not enough to leave and never return.

You’ve doubted yourself, haven’t you? Imagine waiting so long for justice that you started to think maybe it was all…

For a while now, I’ve been thinking about how to scale my eBay store. I’ve thought about this years ago and concluded that supply (at least the supply i want) was just too limited to do it. Recently I’ve come back to the problem with more knowledge and wisdom, hoping that I can finally crack this problem. This time, I feel I’ve made more progress, enough to feel like I can understand the potential of eBay and reselling.

How I approached it this time is by asking one question. That question is, “how much money could I barrow to expand…

“those ages which in retrospect seem most peaceful were least in search of peace. those whose quest for it seems unending appear least able to achieve tranquility. whenever ever peace — conceived as the avoidance of war — has been the primary objective of a power or group of powers, the international system has been at the mercy of the most ruthless member of the international community.”

— Henry Kissinger

Collaboration is king these days. Large companies like Nike and tesla have pulled together talent worldwide to create highly conceptual pieces that individual artists can only dream of creating. According…

Job growth, fostering a startup culture, and maintaining a high quality of living. These are the stated goals of city and business leaders everywhere.

My old town of Michigan City, Indiana is no different. Over a 16-month period, Michigan City developed a growth plan called Momentum: Michigan City 2040 Comprehensive Plan (PDF). According to this document, Michigan City’s goal is to expand city limits by 37% (7.4 square miles) and to develop around 9.23 square miles of land inside and right outside the city borders. …

“You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.” ―Bob Marley

Currently, there are many people in the world still trying to climb out of poverty. From neighborhoods in Baltimore to Angola, the fight against poverty continues.

Many have created nonprofit organizations and demanded the state to play a larger role in fighting poverty. Some of these efforts have produced massive benefits, others not so much. Out of all these efforts arose the question, how much should a community participate in its management and growth?

Of course, the larger the state and NGOs’…

Since the murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, Black Lives Matter protests have been ongoing in many cities across the country. This current chapter in the BLM movement, which in all honesty is a continuation of the civil rights movement of the 1950s, is incredibly intense and widespread. Protests have not just hit major cities in the US, but all over the world.

Besides the BLM movement, the Metoo movement and the protest against anti-immigration policies have been ongoing for years. However, only recently have these other movements taken a back seat to the demonstrations against police brutality.
